Duckworth-Morris-Garrison's roots began in 1867 with the Fitts Insurance Agency. In 1918, Joe A. Duckworth and Charles Morris, both employees of that Agency, bought the business and changed the name to Duckworth-Morris. Duckworth-Morris Agency operated selling both real estate and insurance. On April 1, 1969 Joe B. Duckworth, the grandson of the founder, bought an interest in and took over the management of the real estate department and operated under the name of Duckworth-Morris Realty Co., Inc.
In October 2000, Duckworth-Morris Realty and Howard Garrison of Coldwell Banker Garrison Real Estate merged their residential and commercial brokerage businesses into what is now Duckworth-Morris-Garrison. Currently, there are over 30 Sales Associates, specializing in the sale of residential homes and the sale and leasing of commercial and industrial properties.
Duckworth-Morris Realty continues to operate a Property Management Department headed by Warner Johnson, managing numerous apartment complexes, homes, medical and general office space, shopping centers and Homeowner Associations. Duckworth-Morris has developed several developments in the Tuscaloosa area including Bedford Place, Reston Place, Winn Dixie Essex Square Marketplace, Professional Medical Center, Northwood Estates, Gates of Wellington and Northwood Gardens.
